Chinese National Holiday - Yuyuan Gardens

Friday started the frist day of the Chinese National Holiday.  It is kinda like our Forth of July in the US.  Lots of fire works and traveling.  Many expats and other Shanghai people leave on holiday during this time.  We stayed and were joined by about 10 million other China people visiting China.

We started the day by having to pay a visit to Ikea.  Not a good idea....very busy.  We then deceided to to to lunch at a place called Yuyuan Gardens in Puxi.  As you can tell from the pictures below, it was incrediably crowed with all the tourists to Shanghai.  We ate at a place called Lu Bo Lang Restaurant.  They are known for their special Dim Sum (or dumplings as we call them).  If you look close in the picture below, you will see the "purse" dumplings.  We also had several other diferent types filled with things such as crab and strimp meat.  We also had a few other dishes (srimp was the girls favorite).

Luckily the restaurant was not too busy becasue most people were eating on the street from vendors.  Once we left the restaurant we deceided to skip all the little shops for next time and find our car/driver.  That proved to be more difficult than we thought due to the number of people.  We did look at all of the beautiful buildings.  As you will notice, the buildings look like buildings you would think about when thinking about China...deffitenly non typical of Shanghai.  In a very modern city, the Yuhuan Garden area is different.

Look closely in the pictures below and see who can find the mascot for the world EXPO.   You can't go far in Shanghai without running into one.  I will give you a hint....it's blue!
